The book An Ideal Argument is a guide on safe behavior in an argumentative situation. The psychologist Vadim Petrovsky and the journalist Alexey Khodorych have compiled a collection of encodes – timeless phrases, and described in detail the situations where they can be used. The book is written in light humorous language.

This book is about the efficiency and ease of communication that is achieved through special phrases – encodes. Encodes (that surprise and stop you in your tracks, while being polysemantic) will prompt the reader on how to avoid the barbs of manipulators, choose the right behaviour in a conflict situation and effectively interact with those who are always right.

An Ideal Argument is an expanded and elucidated edition of the book Encodes. How to Negotiate with Anyone on Anything that has survived two reprints.

From the authors
«This book is not about humor (although in part it is about it).
This book is not about manipulation (although in part it is about that).
This book is not about wisdom (although in part it is about wisdom).
There are witty statements in this book, but there are lots of books containing much more of those. Some phrases look like aphorisms. But we have crossed out the aphorisms. The insights of philosophers are also not our choice (although we honor philosophers, and «they» themselves partly do).
This book will bring the image of a PHRASEBOOK in mind. Mind you, a phrasebook for Russians, Russian-speaking users. Everything here is in Russian. Many phrases-encodes of our special phrasebook sound humorous, some have a «philosophical» feel to them, but it was not on purpose. We do not try to make jokes. This is just the way we think. The way we feel. But we cannot always say everything we want to say. Not enough time…
But each encode accelerates a response.
This book is about ease in communication.
The book will tell the reader how not to get caught on the «barbs» of a manipulator, how to prevent a conflict, what to answer to all those smart alecs, how to deal with those who are «always right».
There are few books like that. And this one is the most… (you will finish the sentence when you have read it).

«As Sartre said, «Hell is other people». In this sense, the book about encodes is a true resurrection from that hell, a real miracle of anti-casus linguistics. The authors are geniuses in communicative judo. Everett Shostrom, who wrote Man, the Manipulator, is no match for them. This book helps people, among other things, when they are on the brink of a disaster. This toolkit for mediation in critical situations (including criminal ones) opens another ethical reality. I constantly carry this book with me and tell everyone about it. It has the potential to become a global bestseller that will sell in the millions for the benefit of millions of people around the world».

«An Ideal Argument is a fascinating guide-book on personal self-defense, as if a certain mega well-known historical figure had already said: «What a well-timed book!» This work of the authors should not be regarded as simply a collection of effective and proven life hacks on communication. The book both equips and enlightens. Besides, it is a good read that can give the reader the joy of comparing with their personal life experiences. I am prepared to assert all this not only as the author of similar works that got bound up with my own Book No. 1 No House, reprinted by the same reputable publishing house, but also as one of you, that is, one of those who are still not indifferent to themselves».

«Many people know the concept of encodes developed by Alexey Khodorych, since it is difficult to find a person more sociable and more Facebook savvy. Thanks to this book, encodes have both come into common use by the crowd and have become a fact of culture, while the cooperation with the co-author – the professional psychologist Vadim Petrovsky – has provided scientific verification for the concept of encodes».

«An encode is neither a magic wand nor just a phrase! When applied skillfully, it can take on all comers, but we should not expect it to be one hundred percent effective in each case. Encodes only allow all participants in a dialogue to manifest themselves as saliently as possible. This is rather a lubricant for communication that potentiates the extraction of the most from what we have, but not a magic elixir that would multiply your power. If there are ultimately no prerequisites for mutually beneficial and adequate communication, then no encodes can help».
